Job Description
HR Advisor
Cardiff (Hybrid)
Salary: £35,000–£40,000 + 20% bonus
CPS Group are working with an established, technology-focused business to recruit an HR Advisor to join its Cardiff-based team. This is a hands-on generalist role within a collaborative working environment, offering the opportunity to support managers and employees across a broad range of HR matters and make a meaningful contribution to the employee experience.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong background in employee relations who enjoys building relationships, advising managers and taking ownership of HR matters from start to finish.
Working closely with the wider HR team, you’ll act as the first point of contact for day-to-day HR queries, providing clear advice and guidance across the employee lifecycle. You’ll manage a varied caseload, support managers with performance and people-related challenges, and help ensure policies and procedures remain aligned with current UK employment legislation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing employee relations cases, including disciplinary, grievance and capability matters.
- Taking ownership of absence management, including return-to-work meetings, long-term sickness cases, occupational health referrals and reasonable adjustments.
- Coaching and advising managers on performance management, appraisals and difficult conversations.
- Supporting probation reviews and helping managers address concerns fairly and consistently.
- Managing holiday approvals and flexible working requests.
- Reviewing and updating HR policies and procedures in line with employment law and best practice.
- Maintaining accurate HR records and contributing to monthly HR reporting, identifying trends across absence and employee relations.
- Supporting recruitment activities and working collaboratively with the wider HR team.
About You
You’ll be a confident, approachable HR professional with solid generalist experience and the ability to balance sound employment law knowledge with practical business advice. You’ll be comfortable handling sensitive situations, exercising good judgement and supporting managers through sometimes challenging conversations.
You’ll ideally bring:
- Experience in an HR Advisor, HR Officer or similar generalist HR position.
- Practical experience managing employee relations cases, including disciplinary, grievance, absence and performance matters.
- A good working knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
- CIPD Level 5 qualification, working towards it, or equivalent practical experience.
- The confidence to coach and constructively challenge managers while building strong working relationships.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparing investigation reports and formal outcome letters.
- Strong organisational skills, sound judgement and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Experience within a technology or financial services environment would be advantageous, as would familiarity with HR systems and reporting on people metrics.
