Software Engineer (Java / Spring Boot)

Salary: Up to £55,000 + bonus potential up to £11,000

The Role

We're looking for a hands-on Mid-Level Software Engineer to design, develop and deliver features across a modern software platform.

Working alongside experienced engineers and reporting to an Engineering Team Lead, you'll take ownership of features from initial design through to testing, deployment and production. You'll contribute to technical decisions, maintain high coding standards and support junior engineers, while continuing to develop your own technical skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain applications using Java and Spring Boot.

• Work with PostgreSQL, relational databases, schemas and migrations.

• Deliver features end-to-end, from planning through to production.

• Write unit, integration and contract tests.

• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions and sprint planning.

• Work with CI/CD pipelines and cloud-hosted applications.

• Identify and resolve technical issues, improving performance, security and code quality.

• Support junior engineers through technical guidance and constructive feedback.

• Use AI coding tools effectively while maintaining ownership of code quality and design decisions.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Strong commercial experience with Java and Spring Boot.

• Experience with relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL.

• Proven experience delivering software features into production.

• Knowledge of automated testing, including unit and integration testing.

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and software development best practices.

• Understanding of secure coding, application performance and maintainable software design.

• Ability to work independently, manage priorities and communicate effectively within an engineering team.

Desirable Skills

• Experience with AWS and cloud-hosted systems.

• Exposure to React and TypeScript.

• Familiarity with Jenkins, Prometheus or Grafana.

• Experience within fintech, lending or financial services.

• Knowledge of Keycloak, AWS S3 or AI-powered coding assistants.

• Experience supporting junior developers or participating in technical interviews.

Salary & Benefits

• Salary up to £55,000, depending on experience.
